Police have named the man who died while canoeing on the River Garry as Petrus Janse Van Rensburg, 36, from Buckinghamshire.
Emergency services were called at the River Garry, near Invergarry, after receiving a report of two men in difficulty on the river at around 12.28pm on Thursday December 31.
Two men were reported to have gone into the water after falling from a canoe.
A police statement said: “Both men were taken to Raigmore Hospital for treatment but sadly one of the men died.”
The other man was later released from hospital.
A report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
Petrus Janse Van Rensburg’s next of kin have been informed.
