A motorist has died in a horrific three-car crash near a Highland town.
Emergency services were called to the smash on the A832 road between the Tore roundabout and Muir of Ord at about 5.30pm last night.
Two ambulances, two rapid-response paramedics, two fire crews and police raced to the scene, and the road was closed well into the night.
Debris was strewn over a large area, with a Mazda 6 and a Volkswagen Golf believed to have ended up about 60 yards apart from each other after the collision.
The driver of the Mazda, a man in his 30s, suffered fatal injuries as a result of the crash.
While the driver of the Volkswagen, a man in his 40s, was seriously injured and is currently being treated in Raigmore Hospital, Inverness.
A third vehicle, a Toyota Hilux, was involved but suffered less severe damage.
No one else was injured.
A spokesman for the ambulance service described the incident as “very serious” and confirmed it had involved “multiple” vehicles.
The accident happened about two miles south of the Tore roundabout, between Fettes Sawmill and Garguston Farm.
