James Casey absconded from HMP Castle Huntly near Dundee on December 10. The 50-year-old was convicted of battering father-of-two Ian MacBeth to death during a botched robbery in Invergordon in 1990. Police had initially said that he may have traveled to the Inverness area. A spokeswoman for the force thanked the public for their help with the search.
