A Lochaber residential home is looking for a canine companion for its residents.
Invernevis House in Fort William had a four-legged friend, Henry, who belonged to one of the residents.
Sadly, Henry recently passed away, leaving the residents devastated and care home manager Kit Cameron and her staff determined to get a replacement.
Mrs Cameron said: “We recently renovated our garden and everyone was looking forward to watching Henry playing in it when the better weather arrives.
“We have consulted with staff and residents, and agree that it would be a great idea to get a new dog that we can all love and care for. We thought it would be a wonderful idea to appeal to people in the Lochaber community who would like to help walk the dog, and get to know our residents.”
She has appealed via social media to organisations that re-home animals to get in touch if they know of any dogs that are looking for a loving home.
Mrs Cameron said: “The response was incredible. We’ve had people share the message far and wide and we are hopeful that we can find a dog that is in need of a home. We can guarantee that it will be very well looked after by all of our residents and staff, who pitched in to look after Henry when his owner was unable to.
“It takes a very special type of dog to live in a care home, so we are ideally looking for one that is house trained and enjoys company. I would urge any organisation who is interested in helping to get in touch with me as soon as possible.”
Henry’s owner John Crooke-Gayford, 87, will be the main master of the dog, but will be helped out by staff and other residents of the home.
Mrs Cameron added: “We never had a dog stay in Invernevis before Henry, and his passing has upset everyone. He was genuinely a therapy to each and every one of our residents.
“He was introduced to us when his owner came to live here at Invernevis, and he quickly became a firm favourite. He was friendly, playful and loyal and put a smile on everyone’s face. Hopefully, we can find another dog that will do the same.”
