When most rappers bring out a new EP the launch night is normally all about champagne and gold chains.
But Oban’s hip hop star is using his event as a fundraiser to take disabled youngsters on a trip to Lourdes.
Kevin Irvine, 28, stage name K9Kev, is volunteering with Hosanna House and Children’s Pilgrimage Trust (HCPT) to take a group of children for week’s holiday and pilgrimage.
The five-track EP Dear Diary will be launched at Cuan Mor in George Street from 7.30pm tonight, featuring performances from K9Kev and various local artists.
Tickets are priced at £5 and there will be a raffle. K9Kev said: “All proceeds of the night will go towards getting me over to Lourdes. It’s going to be a belter of a night with some great special guests.
“I wanted to take some kids out there but I couldn’t really afford it, so I thought, I’m putting my EP out, I’ll do some fundraising with that.
“I remember I went to Castle Toward outdoor centre at Dunoon when I was a teenager. I still remember my instructors, I thought they were great, I want to be that person for a kid.”
He continued: “The trip is free for the children but the helpers have to pay their own costs. It provides a fantastic week of respite for the children.”
Mr Irvine is an assistant development worker at Lorn Resource Centre and a volunteer at Oban Youth Cafe.
Dear Diary, which is out now, is his first solo recording for 10 years. It features a wealth of local musical talent including Rory OB, Citizen 9, Lush Puppies, We Looked Like Giants and the Signal Fires.
