The public toilets and land surrounding them at Oban’s iconic Ganavan beach are to be offered for lease by Argyll and Bute Council.
The council’s Oban, Lorn and the Isles Area Committee has agreed to the marketing of the toilets and adjacent land.
Two unsolicited expressions of interest have already been lodged with the council for these locations.
The building and land will be offered for long-term lease or, depending on any offers received, an alternative option for the council developing a facility on the site for lease.
This second option would depend on a business case showing its commercial viability.
Members agreed that the building and council-owned land at the beginning of the cycle path, which is marked by public art, should be advertised as soon as possible, once the necessary legal arrangements have been concluded.
Ganavan and Ganavan Bay are a mile and a half north of Oban, with a sandy beach, car park and public convenience.
The car park provides direct access to a cycle route and has a sports field nearby.
Ganavan is popular with kayakers, cyclists, walkers, dog walkers and visitors to this spectacular coastal location.
Area Committee chairman, Councillor Roddy McCuish, said: “This area lends itself to development and it’s vital to have it advertised as soon as possible to make sure the council receives good value if the go-ahead is given for a leasing arrangement.
“There is no doubt that potential development will enhance an already popular location, and will be of huge benefit to local users and visitors alike.
“I feel confident there will be formal expressions of interest and look forward to receiving development proposals and ideas to make this site the very best it can be.”
