A major search has been launched for two missing climbers on Scotland’s highest peak.
Tim Newton, 27 and Rachel Slater, 24, were climbing in the Ben Nevis area at the weekend but the alarm was raised yesterday afternoon after they failed to make contact.
Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team carried out an initial search last night, with efforts resuming this morning with additional resources.
The couple, both from the Bradford area, had been camped in a green tent near the CIC Hut on the north side of Ben Nevis.
They would have been wearing climbing gear similar to that shown in the photograph.
The search this morning involves Lochaber MRT, RAF MRT, the Search and Rescue Dogs Association and a mountain rescue dog.
Searches are spread over a large area of the mountain including Coire na Ciste, the South Trident Buttress, Coire Leas and the Red Burn area.
A police spokesman said: “Anyone who was climbing or walking in the Ben Nevis area over the weekend and saw the couple is urged to contact 101.”
