A car crash in the Highlands left one person dead last night.
Two others were taken to hospital and were in a stable condition following the collision on the A836 Thurso-Dounreay road around 5.45pm.
Two cars were involved in the incident, which happened near the village of Forss.
A police spokesman said last night that the road was closed and was likely to remain so for some time.
An ambulance spokesman said that two people had been taken to Caithness General Hospital in Wick.
He added: “We received an emergency call at 5.45pm of a two-vehicle road traffic collision.
“Two ambulances were dispatched and are taking two people to Caithness General Hospital.
“Both are in a stable condition.”
Firefighters from Thurso were also in attendance and were still at the scene last night, hours after the incident was first reported.
A spokeswoman said: “Two appliances from Thurso have attended and remain at the scene.”
A police spokesman said: “The A836 at Forss, near Thurso, is currently closed following a report of a serious road traffic collision.
“Emergency services, including police, fire and ambulance, all attended at the scene.
“Local diversions are in place whilst enquiries remains ongoing.”
