A climber who died after falling in the Cairngorms has been named as 32-year-old Peter Nielsen from East Lothian.
The mountaineer was in the Aladdin’s Buttress area of Coire an t-Sneachda when the accident happened on Friday morning.
Mr Nielsen, who is from Tranent just east of Edinburgh, was airlifted to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness, where he died as a result of his injuries.
Police said that Mr Nielsen was an experienced climber who was in the Cairngorms area with an organised climbing group.
A spokeswoman added: “The family of Mr Nielsen have been informed and wish to thank the Mountain Rescue Services who were involved at the time of the incident. They ask that their privacy be respected at this most difficult time.
“A report regarding the death has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Mr Nielsen is the sixth climber to lose their life on Scotland’s hills this year.
Coire an t-Sneachda is considered one of the most accessible routes for winter climbing, due to its proximity to the Cairngorm Mountain ski centre.
On Friday, Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team was alerted by one of its members who was climbing close to the incident.
The alarm was also raised by several climbers in the area, and by an instructor from Glenmore Lodge, the national outdoor training centre.
The instructor witnessed the climber’s fall and immediately went to help.
