The regular osprey couple at the Loch Garten nature reserve have been reunited to resume their eight year love affair.
The reserve’s male bird Odin has returned for the season this week, joining his regular partner EJ who flew in last week.
It put to bed fears that Odin might not return to RSPB Scotland’s centre at Loch Garten after a turbulent time last year.
Centre manager Jess Tomes, said, “We are hugely relieved that Odin has finally come back. After last year’s experience we thought he might take the hump and try pastures new.
“However I’m delighted to say that the boy is back and looking good.
“Odin and EJ have been a pair for eight years but 2015 was a very rocky year in their relationship with an interloping male appearing and their eggs being pushed out of the nest.
“It was a real soap opera and the osprey team and our visitors were on tenterhooks the entire season. In the end we did not see any chicks and that was a real disappointment. We are hoping for better things this year.”
