A 73-year-old motorcyclist has died following a three-vehicle crash near a Loch Ness beauty spot.
Police appealed for witnesses yesterday following the fatal collision on the A82 Inverness to Fort William road at about 4.20pm on Saturday afternoon.
Three vehicles were involved in the collision, which happened at Borlum Farm, Lewiston, between Drumnadrochit and Urquhart Castle.
Paramedics and an air ambulance attended the scene, but the male motorcyclist died as a result of his injuries.
Police said his family had been informed and his identity would be released in due course.
It is understood he was not from the local area.
The road was closed for several hours following the incident on Saturday evening, with a diversion put in place via Spean Bridge.
Tributes were paid to the motorcyclist on social media yesterday.
One Inverness man wrote: “Rest In peace fellow biker, away and ride in biker heaven.
Thoughts are with your family and friends at this sad time.”
It was the latest in a series of fatal accidents on Highland roads this year.
Amanda Harold, 44, from Cumbernauld died after a two-car collision on the A9 Inverness to Perth road near Dalwhinnie last month.
John Foggo, 18, and Georgia Gilham, 16, also died last month following a collision with another car on the B9006 Inverness to Croy road.
In January, 37-year-old Osmond Pearson died at the scene of the three-vehicle smash on the A832 between the Tore roundabout and Muir of Ord.
Twenty-year-old Angus Plowman, from Fortrose, died in a two-vehicle collision on the A832 between Munlochy and Avoch in the same month.
Yesterday, a police spokesman said: “Police can confirm that a man has died following a collision on the A82 at around 4.20pm on Saturday, April 9.
“The three-vehicle collision happened at Borlum Farm, Lewiston, near Drumnadrochit.
“Sadly, a 73-year-old male motorcyclist died of his injuries. His family have been informed and his name will be released in due course.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision is encouraged to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
