Firefighters rushed to Invergordon yesterday after a major blaze broke out at farm buildings on the outskirts of the town.
Crews from Invergordon and Tain attended the fire in a barn in the Newmore area after receiving an emergency call at 4.34pm.
Specialist water hoses from Inverness were also requested by the fire service personnel.
They surrounded the building and were continuing to try to get the blaze under control two hours later.
Smoke could be seen rising from the building as the crews tackled the fire.
It is understood that the barn was filled with hay and that there was no threat to livestock at the farm.
It was the latest in a series of recent fires in the Ross-shire area. Last week, firefighters spent four hours at the disused Glenfield Hotel site on Ullapool’s Old Moss Road as they tackled a blaze.
The building – believed to be the hotel’s former staff quarters – was “badly damaged” by the fire.
It was believed to be the second blaze in the village in the space of two weeks, and the police subsequently launched an investigation.
Crews from both Inverness and Fortrose rushed to the Union Tavern bar in Fortrose High Street after another incident last month.
While in February, separate house fires claimed the lives of 83-year-old Robert Forrest in Golspie and Sybil Grape, 93, in Ullapool.
