A search was launched yesterday for a man who has been missing from a Lochaber fishing village since the weekend.
Police and HM Coastguard personnel scoured the Mallaig area for David Chamberlain, a visitor to the area, who was last seen at around 1am on Saturday leaving the Marine Bar in Mallaig.
They are also appealing to the public for help in tracing the 44-year-old.
Members of the coastguard rescue team could be seen checking the water around the boats in the harbour and sorting through skips full of rubbish on the quayside.
A police spokeswoman said: “Mallaig Coastguard Rescue Team searched the coastline and police units were searching inland areas, including any outhouses.”
And she asked anyone who has seen Mr Chamberlain or could help with their inquiries in any way to get in touch with the police.
It is believed a friend became concerned when they could not contact him, and raised the alarm with police.
Mr Chamberlain is described as around 5ft 10in and of slim build.
He wears glasses, has a fair complexion and speaks with an English accent.
A police spokeswoman last night confirmed that the search had so far proved unsuccessful. Anyone with information about his whereabouts, or who has seen him, should call 101.
