Two Lochaber congregations will get a new minister on Friday evening – four years after the previous incumbent retired.
The service of induction of the Rev Richard Baxter to the charge of the Duncansburgh MacIntosh Church in Fort William and Kilmonivaig Church in Spean Bridge is to be held in the Fort William church at 7pm.
It will be conducted by the Moderator of the Lochaber Presbytery the Rev Edgar Ogston, who conducted Mr Baxter’s ordination in Fife in 1997, when he was Moderator of Kirkcaldy Presbytery.
Mr Baxter, 54, who is married with two grown up children, was previously the minister at Kennoway, Windygates and Balgonie in Fife for 18 years.
He said: “I felt it was time for a change for me and the congregation and Fort William seemed to be a different kind of ministry to what I had been engaged in.
“It was also an opportunity to come to an area I had visited as a tourist and loved.”
The Rev Donald MacQuarrie retired from the post in 2012. In the meantime, it has been covered by the Rev Adrian Varwell and the Rev Morag Muirhead.
