In Inverness start-up company specialising in remote medical data has been awarded a grant worth up to £10,000 in a competition aimed at up-and-coming firms.
Mime Technologies has been selected as a winner of the Scottish Edge Wildcard competition, which identifies and supports innovative firms that are “pre-trading”.
The company, based in the Centre for Health Science in Inverness, has developed technology which runs on mobile devices that link with next-generation, non-invasive wireless medical sensors.
The result is a lightweight wireless tool that enables the safe assessment and monitoring of a patient’s vital signs during an on scene emergency, allowing first aiders to deliver best possible care.
The technology has recently been trialed with support from the British Red Cross at numerous high profile sporting events, including the RBS Six Nations and the Etape Loch Ness. Founder and chief executive Dr Alasdair Mort will receive the award in June at the Scottish Edge evening ceremony in Edinburgh.
The firm, which was founded last year, was one of 12 winners.
Evelyn McDonald, chief executive of Scottish Edge, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be able to announce the twelve winners of the Scottish Edge Round 8 Wild Card competition. The twelve pre-trading businesses selected by our panel of expert judges reflect the huge variety of fantastically innovative products and ideas being developed across Scotland and we look forward to supporting these entrepreneurs in helping their businesses launch and grow in the future.”
