Road works on the A82 Fort William to Glasgow road have been rescheduled to avoid the Spring Bank Holiday following complaints from a campaign group for the road.
The A82 Partnership pointed out that Bear Scotland’s plans to carry out essential resurfacing work between Tyndrum and Rannoch summit from Monday May 30 to Friday June 3 included the bank holiday.
And the group’s spokesman Stewart MacLean said the trunk road maintenance agency appeared to be unaware of the Spring Bank Holiday and its impact on traffic on the A82.
Mr MacLean yesterday (Thursday) said: “Following representations from the A82 Partnership, Bear Scotland has revised and reduced the period required for the resurfacing works between Tyndrum and Rannoch summit.”
The work is now provisionally programmed to be carried out between 7am and 7pm from Tuesday May 31 to Friday June 3.
A 10mph convoy traffic management system will be in place at these times for the safety of road workers and motorists.
And a 30mph speed limit will remain in place outwith working hours as traffic will be travelling over a temporary road surface.
In a letter to local people about this scheme, Bear routine maintenance manager Seymour Macleod wrote: “Following discussions with our subcontractor, we have been able to reduce the working window for undertaking these works.”
He added that this would avoid the requirement to work on the Bank Holiday.
