A popular Highland piping event has been cancelled this year because it clashed with other events on the musical calendar.
Lochaber Piping Society’s junior competitions have been held every year in Fort William for more than 25 years.
And acting secretary Morag Melville was keen to stress that they will be back next year.
The event, which attracts around 50 young pipers, from across the Highlands and Argyll, is usually held in Lochaber High School.
Mrs Melville explained that the junior competitions were usually held in March or April, but they had been unable to find any date this year that did not clash with other events.
She said: “There was a change in the committee at the annual general meeting at the end of last year, with the president and committee members retiring.
“There just weren’t enough of them left to get everybody sorted in time for the dates that were available and they clashed with so many other piping events and music festivals.
“We couldn’t find a date that was suitable so we decided to leave it for this year.”
Mrs Melville added that the one-day event had taken place for at least 25 years.
She said: “As far as I know, this is the first year it hasn’t been held and it will definitely return next year.”
