School inspectors have praised a Skye primary school for its “friendly and hardworking” children.
Inspectors who visited Kyleakin Primary School and Nursery Class also highlighted the relationships between the school and families, which they said were built on “respect and trust”.
And they praised the leadership of the head teacher and teamwork shown by staff in taking forward school improvement and the progress made with developing children’s awareness of what they do well and what they need to do to improve further.
In a letter to parents, HM Inspector Alasdair Eadie wrote: “Children in the nursery and primary classes are making very good progress in literacy and numeracy.
“Nursery children listen well and are confident in responding.”
He added that the head teacher had a very clear vision for the school and wrote: “Staff have responded positively to her vision and contribute skilfully to developing the school.”
Mr Eadie said they had discussed with staff and Highland Council how they might continue to improve the school and nursery class.
And he said they had agreed to continue to develop approaches to assessing and monitoring children’s progress to ensure they do as well as possible.
The school and local authority also agreed to continue to develop ways to include parents as meaningful partners in school improvement.
Mr Eadie wrote: “We are satisfied with the overall quality of provision.
“We are confident that the school’s self-evaluation processes are leading to improvements.”
He added that the council would keep parents informed about the school’s progress.
