A long serving Highland councillor is due to face a Standards Commission hearing today for alleged breach of conduct.
Roddy Balfour, a former solicitor, intervened in a dispute between the council and near neighbour George Byers, over the felling of trees in a Croy garden that were the subject of a protection order.
The Culloden and Ardersier independent councillor and Mr Byers will each have an opportunity to speak on the issue at the Town House hearing in Inverness.
The Commissioner for Ethical Standards referred the case to the Standards Commission.
It is alleged that Mr Balfour breached rules governing members’ behaviour while representing the council on official business.
He phoned the police when he spotted a private contractor hired by Mr Byers, of Carrickholm, felling two Scots pine, a Douglas fir and an oak.
Mr Byers had argued that the council failed to give sufficient public notice of the trees order. He claimed the trees were a hazard to his home and people using the B9006.
Mr Balfour has said he intervened in response to a call from an anxious constituent.
