Police yesterday released a CCTV image of missing hillwalker Goffredo Bondanelli at Fort William station.
And they renewed their appeal for anyone who has seen him to get in touch with them.
The 56-year-old German national was last seen at Fort William station on May 3 boarding a train to Lochailort, before undertaking a five-day, 47-mile walk between Lochaillort and Glenfinnan.
A police spokeswoman said he planned to return to Glenfinnan on May 8.
She said: “Mr Bondanelli would have been camping out on hills and Corbetts during this five-day period, including Coire na Cnamha, Lochan Feith Easian, Sgurr an Utha and possibly walking on the nearby A830 at times.
“Mr Bondanelli is an experienced hillwalker and is well equipped. He has a green tent and dark rucksack.”
She added that he may have planned to return by train on May 8 from Glenfinnan to Fort William or Arrochar, Argyll, but he may have used a bus service.
She said: “Inquiries are currently being carried out in Argyll to establish if Mr Bondanelli has been in the area.
“In Lochaber, officers are currently searching in the areas between Lochailort and Glenfinnan on his route, but welcome more information about Mr Bondanelli’s movements or contact with other walkers.”
He is described as around 5ft 10in, of an athletic build, with dark and grey hair, possibly with stubble or a light beard. He is wearing dark outdoor clothing.
Anyone with any information that may assist with the search is urged to contact police on 101.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that the body of another missing hillwalker, Edward Davies, 39, from Hampshire, was found in Glencoe by an off-duty police officer on Wednesday afternoon after extensive searches had failed to find any trace of him.
Mr Davies had not been seen or made contact with his family or friends since Sunday May 8.
Glencoe Mountain Rescue Team leader Andy Nelson yesterday said: “Edward was found by an off-duty police officer, who is a friend of the team.
“He was going for a walk of his own volition, but went somewhere that was relevant to the search.”
The family yesterday issued a statement which said: “Our beloved Edward has died from a fall whilst hillwalking in the Sgùrr na h-Ulaidh area on Sunday May 8.
“Edward’s family and friends wish to say how grateful they are to the police, the community of Glencoe and in particular the mountain rescue teams, who have been so very supportive during this difficult time.”
