Police are warning shopkeepers in Lochaber about a scam involving DVDs.
They are also asking members of the public to get in touch if they are offered the opportunity to buy them in suspicious circumstances.
Inspector Donald Campbell, stationed at Fort William, explained that DVDs had been purchased from a store in Fort William High Street.
These have been taken away and copied and a fraudulent copy has been returned for a refund.
The inspector said: “My suspicion is that there is a group of people involved in this.
“It has now happened two or three times in the same location.
“The packaging is original, but the DVD has been taken and replaced with a copy.”
He advised shopkeepers to be wary about offering refunds for DVDs and members of the public to only buy them from reputable outlets as the copies would be substandard.
He said: “Work is ongoing to identify the individual involved on these occasions and to establish whether they are part of a group.”
Anyone offered DVDs in unusual circumstances or with any information that could help police with their inquiries is asked to contact them on 101.
