A driver with “MAD” on his number-plate was yesterday accused of speeding at 90mph on an island road.
Argyll businessman Ewen MacPherson, 47, admitted motoring at 30mph above the limit near Broadford on Skye in his car – which has the personalised registration W77 MAD.
Fiscal David Morton told Portree Sheriff Court that the offence on February 6 happened just after 5pm and the traffic was “moderate”.
Defence lawyer Ewen Cameron said the father-of-four was driving fast with his wife as passenger “as they were late for a 92nd birthday party in Portree”.
MacPherson, of Lagavulin, North Connell, owned carpet shops in Fort William, Oban and Lochgilphead, employing a total of nine staff.
He was given six penalty points and a £1,000 fine.
