A suspected drink driver was fined £450 and banned for three years at Wick Sheriff Court yesterday.
Craig Nimmo, 30, was spotted by police driving away from a Wick restaurant in his work van in the early hours of October 17, and was arrested.
He was taken to the town’s police station where he refused to co-operate with the tests.
Solicitor Michael Chapman said that Nimmo, of 37 Sempill Avenue, Erskine, had panicked, fearing the consequences that the tests would trigger.
Mr Chapman added that the accused, who pleaded guilty and admitted a previous conviction, was engaged on a major construction project in Caithness and it was unclear whether the conviction would affect his employment.
However, it would hamper his travel to and from his family home.
Sheriff Andrew Berry described Nimmo’s actions as “foolish in the extreme”, particularly given the importance of his licence to him.
