Two men were taken to hospital yesterday following a serious collision between a small lorry and a car on the north’s busiest road.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash on the A9 Inverness-Perth road, about five miles south of Dalwhinnie, at about 2.55pm.
Police said yesterday that the male drivers of both vehicles involved were taken to Raigmore Hospital by road ambulance with injuries which were “not thought to be life threatening”. Specific details of their injuries were unknown last night.
A fire service spokeswoman said that one person had to be cut free from their vehicle.
The road was closed in both directions initially for emergency services to deal with the two casualties and was partially re-opened later in the afternoon for officers to divert traffic while the vehicles were recovered.
Firefighters from Inverness, Grantown and Kingussie joined colleagues from nearby Newtonmore in the aftermath of the accident.
The collision happened on a single carriageway section of road just north of the start of the dual carriageway section at Drumochter Pass.
At the scene yesterday, a black BMW vehicle, which was believed to have been travelling northbound, was being recovered.
Heavy damage was visible to the right side of the car, particularly in the driver’s door area.
The lorry, described by police as a large van, ended up on its side partially on the southbound carriageway and on a grassy verge to the side of the road.
A small amount of debris was left on the road as a result of the collision.
