The Faroese Government has said it would be interested in taking part in an Islands Summit in Stornoway with the councils for the Western Isles, Orkney and Shetland.
The proposal follows a meeting at Westminster between Western Isles MP Angus MacNeil and representatives of the Faroese Government.
Mr MacNeil said: “The Scottish islands have much in common with the Faroe Islands, such as fishing and tourism.”
He added that he had written to Western Isles Council asking if it would be willing to accommodate this request from the Faroese Government.
