These are the amazing pictures of humpback whales breaching near the Western Isles.
A group of seven whales breached from the water at Tuimpan Head, off the north-east coast of Lewis.
Humpback whales were once a rare sight in the waters around Lewis but in recent years their appearances have been more frequent.
The stunning pictures were taken during an hour-and-half long cruise run by Hebridean Whale Cruises.
Nick Davies, a boat-skipper with the cruise company, had noticed the small group of humpback whales from several miles away.
He said: “I’ve been doing this for 21 years and in the first 18 of those I only saw two humpback whales, but in the last three years I’ve seen at least 30.
“We’re getting more and more humpback whales in our waters since they’ve realised that whaling has stopped around here.
“The aggregations of humpbacks is the highest it’s ever been in the UK and it’s always a treat to see them up close.
“I’m not sure why they’re breaching in a feeding area since it’s usually something they do when mating.”
