An online appeal has been launched to cover the funeral costs of two toddlers who tragically lost their lives after their family car crashed into a Highland loch.

Leia McCorrisken, three, and Seth McCorrisken, two, died on Wednesday after their mother’s car went off the A816, north of Kilmelford village, and plunged into Loch Nan Druimean.

Although the appeal was only set up on Saturday, it has already raised £10,895 of the £15,000 target as hundreds of people have rushed to donate.

On the appeal page, organiser Sarah Stopford wrote: “I know there isn’t anything that any of us can do or say to ease Hazel and Neil’s hearts.

“I know that the Shire is full of good souls who are good at rallying together and I thought that we could rally together now and raise some money to help give Leia and Seth a beautiful send off.”

A number of people have also used the page as a means of leaving messages of support for the grieving family with one kindhearted pledger saying: “This feels like the least anyone can do to convey the feelings of sorrow and the want to hep in any way possible.

“I hope the family feel they can reach out to the community if and when needed. You have been in my thoughts everyday. Love to you all.”

Another, appearing to be the children’s uncle, Stuart, wrote: “We are overwhelmed by all of your kindness, love and support, thank you so much from me my brother and Hazel.”

Sarah added: “The amount of money raised in under 24 hours is astonishing! Everyone has been unbelievably generous.

“People have been so so kind and the love shown to Hazel, Neil, Luke and family is absolutely beautiful.”
