A 45-year-old Plockton man who assaulted his wife after accusing her of having an affair was ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work yesterday.
Callum MacInnes, 19 Burnside, appeared from custody at Inverness Sheriff Court having been remanded three weeks ago after breaching his bail conditions.
The court was told that on June 18 this year, MacInnes and his wife had been out at a local event and he returned home drunk.
Fiscal Roderick Urquhart said: “His wife retreated into a bedroom where he assaulted her by pushing her on the body and striking her on the head to her injury.”
Sheriff Margaret Neilson was told that MacInnes had similar previous convictions, which he admitted.
When the police arrived, MacInnes was seen at an upstairs window holding a knife, threatening the officers with violence and then holding the knife to his throat.
Defence solicitor Aileen Macinnes said her client’s offending was “down to his drinking”.
She added: “He is going to address that. His period in custody has been a salutory lesson to him. The marriage is now over.”
Sheriff Neilson also ordered MacInnes to take part in a domestic abuse programme.
A 28-year-old Ardersier man was warned he would go to jail if he didn’t finish unpaid working hours imposed at an earlier hearing.
James Green, 5 Reaybank Road, admitted a breach of bail and assaulting a teenager by spitting on his leg on August 16 last year.
He appeared yesterday at Inverness Sheriff Court for sentence and Sheriff Margaret Neilson was told that Green had failed to comply with opther community payback orders.
The court was told that his ex-partner was in her bedroom when she heard a loud bang from downstairs.
Fiscal Roderick Urquhart said she suspected it was Green who was on a bail order not to contact her, so she phoned the police.
Green left the area and while walking through a park, without warning, he spat on one of two boys, Mr Urquhart added.
Defence agent Rory Gowans said he had told his client he was in a perilous position because of the outstanding working hours.
He added: “It was his birthday, he was in a mist of inebriation and he decided to visit his ex-partner in breach of his bail condition.
“He doesn’t remember spitting on the boy and he is horrified by his behaviour.”
Sheriff Neilson deferred sentence for another two months until September 14 and called for an up to date progress report on his CPO.
She told Green: “If you step out of line you will go to jail.”
