The Cairngorms National Park is promoting short walks as an incentive to get people to take a stroll this autumn while sensing the beauty of the area.
It is hosting the first “Wee walks week” between September 5-11 as an informal celebration of short local walks.
Rangers will be on hand to help people get the most from the experience of any of 32 trails, generally less than four miles long with a gentle gradient.
The initiative is part of the park’s Active Cairngorms campaign aimed at helping people discover the health benefits of regular exercise.
David Clyne, the park’s recreation and access manager said: “Wee walks week isn’t a walking festival with organised, led walks. It’s much more informal.
“It’s about encouraging groups of friends, family members and colleagues to arrange a day and time during that week to head out for a wee walk together. Alternatively, our rangers are organising some wee walks.”
