A main road in Argyll was closed for several hours yesterday after a log lorry was involved in a crash with two cars and shed its load.
Eyewitnesses described the way the driver of one of the cars had a lucky escape as logs landed on top of the vehicle and its roof crumpled.
The man managed to quickly move from the driver’s seat to the passenger seat to avoid being hit by one of the heavy pieces of wood.
The crash took place on the A816 Oban to Lochgilphead road at Kilmartin just after 8am and resulted in the road being closed for six hours.
A police spokeswoman said: “Police and emergency services responded to reports of a three vehicle road traffic crash on the A816 northbound at the entrance to Kilmartin, between a lorry and two cars.
“The lorry shed its load onto the carriageway. No-one was seriously injured in the collision.
“The driver of the first car was taken to Lochgilphead Hospital to receive treatment. His condition was described as stable.
“The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital for a checkup and the driver of the third vehicle was uninjured.
“The road was closed for a significant period of time to allow for clean up and recovery. It was re-opened just after 2pm.”
Local diversions were in place via the single track road between Ford and Kilmichael Glassary.
Chisholm’s heavy haulage recovery were brought it to recover the P McKerral and Co Ltd timber lorry.
A spokeswoman for the fire service said: “Fire fighters were alerted to reports of a road traffic collision on the A816 near Kilmartin earlier today.
“Crews from Lochgilphead and Ardfern arrived at the scene at 8.09am.
“No persons were trapped in the vehicles.
“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service assisted in making the vehicles safe.
“Fire fighters left the scene at 9.27am after ensuring the area had been made safe.”
