The funeral takes place today of a mountain rescue team hero who died on the hills he loved.
Stuart Ashton was the treasurer of Skye Mountain Rescue Team. The 53-year-old was airlifted from Ciste Dhubh in Kintail after suffering a suspected heart attack while walking with friends on February 24.
Kintail Mountain Rescue Team was called out at around 5.30pm but were not able to recover Mr Ashton until the following day due to bad weather. First on the scene was Mr Ashton’s best friend Jonah Jones and his dog Mack, both of the Search and Rescue Dog Association Scotland (SARDA). Also in attendance were Police Scotland.
Mr Ashton’s funeral will be held at the Fernlea Church of Scotland on Skye with burial at Trien Cemetery.
He is survived by wife Tania, with whom he ran a B&B in Crossal on the island, and his family.
Police Scotland said a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal – as in all sudden deaths.
