Road works which will widen Culloden Road’s approach to Inshes roundabout are due to start on May 21 – and are expected to last for up to 22 weeks.
The £500,000 contract has been awarded to Wills Bros by the Highland Council, to add an additional westbound lane for city centre traffic between the Inverness Campus junction and the roundabout.
Delays on the route are expected, but signs will be erected to give drivers advanced notice of the restrictions.
Garry Smith, Highland Council’s Principal Engineer said: “We are aware of the sensitivity of this arterial route into the city and the provision of an additional lane will ease the flow of traffic into Inverness from the east.
“The pinch point on the A9 over bridge where traffic currently merges into one city-bound lane leads to driver frustration. The scheme seeks to remove this pinch point from the network.”
It is likely that traffic lights will be in operation in the off-peak periods.
