Thousands of pounds have been raised to help support the family of an 18-year-old who died in a quad bike accident in Dingwall.
Adam Reid, from the Muir of Ord area, was killed in the crash on Dochcarty Brae at around 2.45pm on Friday.
Emily Sinclair, of Marybank, was related to the youngster and has set up a fundraising page online to help the family with all of the costs surrounding his death.
She wrote on the appeal that his loved ones had been “turned upside down” after the “tragic loss of our very special Adam”.
She added: “I’m setting this up purely to help with any costs that need covered, any help would be greatly appreciated.”
By yesterday afternoon the total had already reached £8,175, very close to the £8,900 target. More than 360 people had donated, sending their best wishes.
Robin Sinclair wrote: “The dude was my nephew. I watched Adam grow up, unfortunately I wasn’t around to go for a pint with the wee man which I now regret.”
Kerry Maclennan added: “Very sorry to hear about Adam, he was a lovely young man. Thinking of you all at this very sad time.”
Diane Bamber added: “Very sad and so young.”
Muir of Ord Rovers was among those donating, noting that Mr Reid had played for the juniors side.
Mr Reid worked as a workshop apprentice at Frank Nicol Farm and Garden Machinery Ltd in Dingwall, and his employer posted about the “tragic event” online over the weekend.
The firm said: “Adam Reid was an amazing young man who we had the pleasure of calling our workshop apprentice, colleague and friend.
“He will leave a big void that we will never forget. We send our further condolences to Adam’s family and friends at this unbearable time.”
Emergency services attended on Friday but Mr Reid, the sole rider of the quad bike, was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other vehicles were involved. The road was closed until around 7.50pm to allow for an investigation at the scene.
Sergeant Ewan Calder said: “Our inquiries are ongoing and I would urge anyone who has information which has not yet been passed to police to call 101, quoting incident 2162 of February 21.”
It is understood Mr Reid’s vehicle left the road and plunged down a steep slope before coming to rest in a ditch.
The location complicated the emergency response, though units were on scene within minutes.
A helicopter was sent to Dingwall in a effort to save Mr Reid, with paramedics seen working on him at the bottom of the slope.
