Crews were first called to the mart at around 3.45pm this afternoon. Around four hours later, the control room confirmed two fire engines remained at the scene, damping down. At the height of the blaze, seven fire engines were used to fight the flames. A towering plume of black smoke could be seen blowing across the surrounding hills. A fire spokesman said: “We were alerted at 3.47pm to reports of a fire within a livestock market in Oban. “Operations control mobilised seven fire appliances to the scene. “We have scaled back the operation a bit but there are still a couple of appliances there.” More to follow.
