The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for high winds and heavy rain in parts of Argyll today.
Kintyre, Islay and parts of Mull are expected to be affected.
Anyone travelling is being warned to be prepared for disruption, delays and challenging driving conditions.
CalMac has already cancelled its morning ferry sailings to Islay due to the weather forecast, and said it will re-assess the situation at lunchtime. It has warned that other routes may also be disrupted.
A Met Office spokesman said: “Southerly gales are expected to affect the warning area during Thursday with the potential for a small low pressure centre to develop and move north which could generate an area of severe gales with gusts 60-70 mph within its circulation. Spells of rain, some heavy, are also likely in these western areas during Thursday.
“The public should be aware of the risk of some disruption to travel from both wind and rain. Localised flooding is possible, particularly with the rain falling onto already saturated ground, whilst the strength of the wind may be sufficient to bring down some trees.”
