The accident happened on a single carriageway stretch at Dalwhinnie, just before 9am. Firefighters used cutting gear to remove the roof of a Volkswagen estate car in which one person was trapped. A police spokesman said that the casualty was conscious at the time but has since been taken to hospital with “non life threatening injuries.” The occupants of the other car, which is an Audi estate, were able to get out of their vehicle. Fire crews from Kingussie and Newtonmore were first on scene along with local paramedics. Fire units from Aviemore and the heavy rescue unit from Inverness also turned out. It is understood that the road is still blocked in both directions as the cars await recovery.
