The grieving partner of a Highland motorcyclist who died after his machine collided with a campervan has spoken of her sorrow after losing her “rock” and “best friend.”
Calum Maciver, of Poolewe, Wester Ross, was travelling on the A832 Aultbea to Gairloch road when he crashed on a twisting section of the carriageway between Drumchork and Poolewe on Friday.
Messages of sympathy have been pouring in for those closes to Mr Maciver, 36,who worked offshore worker in Angola.
Within 24 hours of receiving the tragic news, Mr Maciver’s partner, Kirsteen Currie, paid tribute to her partner on social media.
She wrote: “Yesterday the brightest light in my life went out. Cannot believe that my beautiful man won’t be coming home anymore.
“We had so many adventures and plans. He was my best friend, my rock, my world. He was loved by so many. I’ll never stop loving you or missing you. Night night babe.”
Miss Currie, formerly worked as a parliamentary assistant for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross-shire MSP Rob Gibson.
Last night, he said: “We are all behind the family at this difficult time. We are all friends as well as colleagues and that is part of why we now need to make sure we give the family some space.”
Councillor Ken Gowans said: “It is very tragic and I think a shock to everyone and our thoughts are very much with Kirsteen and the family.”
Councillor Maxine Smith, poised to be the new leader of Highland Council, posted online: “So sad to hear that dreadful news. What a great pity, such a young life.”
Following Friday’s accident, police, ambulance and fire crews went to the remote spot, along with the Inverness-based air ambulance, but Mr Maciver died from his injuries at the scene, around two miles south of the Aultbea junction
The road was blocked for several hours to allow crash scene investigators from the road policing unit in Dingwall to examine the scene.
Mr Maciver had been planning a scenic motorbike run with friends in July, with the group due to start and finish the route in Inverness after riding up the Highland coastline.
