All schools in Shetland and the Western Isles will remain closed tomorrow as a precaution because of Storm Abigail.
The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning covering the western and northern isles as well as parts of the north coast between 6pm tonight and midday tomorrow.
Western Isles Council confirmed earlier this afternoon that all schools and nurseries will be closed to pupils, though teaching staff are expected to attend.
A similar situation has been declared in Shetland due to concern about high winds and potential lightning stikes.
Shetland College has also confirmed it will also be closed.
Public transport hit
Western Isles Council has also said that public transport will be limited as detailed below.
Thursday 12th November – The last public buses throughout the Western Isles will be at 6pm – users should try to use earlier services if possible, particularly Tarbert onwards and Stornoway to Point route.
The last bus from Stornoway to Tarbert will leave at 17:10 – twenty minutes earlier than usual.
The last services in Balivanich will be as follows: Last service North at 15:25. Last service South 17:00.
The last services in Lionacleit will be as follows: Last service North 15:50. Last service South 17:10.
Public bus services across the whole region will resume on the normal timetable from 9:30am tomorrow Friday 13th November.
