The excavation of an ancient Iron Age hill fort in Glen Nevis will be the focus of the last in Lochaber Local History Society’s current series of meetings this evening.
Jamie Humble will speak on the work on the vitrified fort of Dun Deardail at 1,165 feet above sea-level, close to the West Highland Way.
Last year, the first of the three phases of the excavation project was completed.
Mr Humble will be speaking about the discoveries so far and plans for further work this year.
Local historian Roddy Mainland will also present some of his experiences with the vitrification process.
A vitrified fort has stone walls, which show evidence of having been subjected to extreme heats – over 1,000C – causing the rocks to melt and fuse together.
Everyone is welcome to attend the talk at the Ben Nevis Hotel in Fort William at 8pm.
The society’s annual general meeting will be at 7.30pm on Thursday April 14 at 7.30pm upstairs in the Alexandra Hotel.
