A Lochaber woman was yesterday jailed for four months for drinking vodka while carrying out unpaid work imposed for a drink driving offence.
Leeanne Lowe, 41, of 10 Young Place, Fort William, was ordered to complete 200 hours unpaid work as part of a community payback order imposed at Fort William Sheriff Court for driving while four and a half times the legal alcohol limit.
The offence was committed on Belford Road and elsewhere in the town on March 29 last year.
And she appeared before the same court yesterday and admitted breaching the order.
Stephen Kennedy, representing Lowe, said his client, who had a long-standing drink problem, had completed 26 hours of the work.
He added that the order also instructed her to refer herself to the community mental health team, which she had done.
Sentencing Lowe, Sheriff Richard Davidson said: “To come to carry out your unpaid work, not only with a bottle of vodka in your possession, but to consume it while you were there completely undermines the value of the order.”
He added that if Lowe was not prepared to stay away from alcohol then he would do it for her by imposing a custodial sentence.
