A prominent marina on the west coast has been placed on the open market by its current owners.
Oban Marina, with a price tag of around £1million, has played host to high-profile events including the Sebago Round Britain and Ireland Challenge, the Scottish Peaks Race and the World Cruising Club’s Malts Cruise.
Strutt and Parker is marketing the business for offers in excess of £975,000.
The going concern is located on the idyllic island of Kerrera, which is a short boat trip from Oban.
Euan MacCrimmon, associate in Strutt and Parker’s Inverness office, said: “The sale of Oban Marina offers a rare opportunity to purchase a trading marina located within an area which boasts some of the best sailing in Europe. It benefits from several income streams and development opportunities. It is not often a business like this comes to the market and it offers fantastic potential.”
New owners would have considerable scope to expand the marina. There are currently 95 serviced pontoon berths with planning consent to increase to 200 berths.
There is a popular licensed restaurant with capacity for 50 covers, a slipway, 30 moorings, hardstanding for the storage and overwintering of up to 100 boats, two boatsheds, a workshop, a reception and amenity block.
Also in included in the sale is a four-bedroom bungalow, a three-bedroom log cabin and three-quarters of a mile of sea frontage.
There is also planning consent for a new building incorporating reception office, private offices, shop, bar, restaurant, function room, shower and wc facilities.
The restaurant is popular with both sailors and visitors and the marina runs its own direct ferry from Oban’s North Pier making it a popular day trip.
It was bought in 2012 by the owners of North Ledaig Caravan Park, near Oban.
The family firm includes Peter Weir as the chairman/managing director, his wife Katy as company secretary/director and their son Tim is development director.
Peter and Tim Weir owned a Moody sailing yacht together.
