Former Skye, Lochaber and Badenoch MSPDave Thompson has been recognised for his outstanding contribution to the trading standards profession.
The 66-year-old, who was a trading standards officer for 34 years, was presented with a Status International Award from the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) at its annual conference at Telford in the West Midlands.
Mr Thompson joined the Scottish National Party at 16 and was hailed as a nationalist hero after challenging an election result and bringing about the first SNP minority government in 2007.
He was also the first Chief Inspector of Weights and Measures for Western Isles Council and went on to become Director of Protective Services, at Highland Council, retiring in 2001.
The former MSP became a CTSI vice president in 2009 – a post he still holds today.
The institute’s chief executive Leon Livermore said: “Dave is a fantastic advocate for the trading standards profession both in his political life and his role as a CTSI vice president.
“Since the age of 16, he has passionately stood up for his beliefs and that includes standing up for consumers and the profession itself.”
