Emergency services were called out after a woman was knocked down by a car in Inverness.
The 25-year-old woman was crossing at traffic lights in the city’s Grant Street when she was hit by a dark coloured Peugeot car at around 10.50am.
A Police Scotland spokesman said the traffic lights were green and the driver got out of the car to speak to the woman following the incident.
He then drove off without leaving his details. The woman was taken to Raigmore Hospital where she is receiving treatment for head injuries.
Police are now trying to trace the owner of the car.
Police Inspector Chisholm said: “I would appeal for anyone who was in the area around the time in question and saw anything that could help our investigation to contact police.
“In particular, if you recognise yourself as being the car owner involved, please get in touch so that we can establish exactly what happened.
“Anyone with information should contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 if you wish to remain anonymous.”
