Police have launched an investigation after training kits were stolen from the Inverness home of Clachnacuddin FC.

The Highland League club issued a public appeal to catch the culprits following the incident at Grant Street Park on Sunday.

Bosses at Clach have also vowed to review their security arrangements in the wake of the thefts.

Some of the stolen kit, which was used for training and by the team’s junior side, was found near the ground in the Merkinch area.

Bottles of water were also thrown over the stand, with the club suspecting that youngsters may have been responsible.

Chairman Alex Chisholm said: “There were reports of kids playing around the park area. We found some kit missing. I’ve reported it to the police, obviously.

“We’ve recovered a few bits and pieces close to the park.

“I think it’s young kids larking about and being stupid.

“We’re a bit annoyed about it but there was no damage caused.

“These things happen in life, unfortunately.”

On Sunday, the football club used social media to urge supporters and members of the public who had any information to contact Crimestoppers.

Mr Chisholm thanked local residents for their response, and said that the club may discuss ways to improve security at the stadium in the future.

“If we’ve got issues to look at in terms of security then we will look at it, and put it out there that it’s not a play park,” he said.

“We had a tremendous response from neighbours and the public, we’re delighted with that.

“Police have got a couple of lines of inquiry. It’s all in hand.”

Once city resident branded the incident “disgusting” on social media, “especially after all the hard work and effort that goes into running the club on a tight budget”.

A police spokesman confirmed that an investigation was under way and remained ongoing yesterday.
