A number of homes in Inverness were left without electricity for several hours yesterday after a fire in an electricity box cut the power supply.
A total of 80 properties were affected by the incident in Kinmylies in the west of the city.
SSE received a call from the fire service at about 3.45pm and a team of engineers worked throughout the day and evening to bring the homes back on grid.
An SSE spokeswoman confirmed the fire was the cause of the outage, adding they hoped to restore normal service to customers by 9pm.
Local residents, posting on social media, following the power cut, claimed the fire occurred in the Millerton area.
Janice Macdonald wrote: “Seemingly, it’s a fire over the other side of Millerton and they’ve had to isolate everyone on the same grid as the fire – I’m one of them.”
A fire service spokesman said that one appliance from Inverness went to the scene following the 999 call at 3.27pm and crews had left by 4.30pm.
No one was hurt as a result of the incident.
