Motorists in Inverness will have to rethink their journeys across the city with Millburn level crossing set to close from noon on Saturday for three days.
The closure, which will last until 6am next Tuesday, will enable essential maintenance to be carried out by Network Rail.
Advanced notification signs have been erected as a warning to all drivers and local businesses have been informed of the impending closure.
It means that drivers will not be able to access Harbour Road from Millburn roundabout, which could result in more vehicles than usual travelling through the city centre.
Completion of the Inverness West Link road is expected to go a long way to alleviating city centre congestion, and as a result should help in such periods where more traffic than usual is flowing through the city centre.
Construction on the £55million road began earlier this year. It will eventually link the A82 Inverness to Fort William road and Dores Road via a new bridge over the River Ness.
In July, an unscheduled closure of the busy Harbour Road was caused by a fault at Millburn level crossing, resulting in rush-hour travel chaos.
The barriers became stuck late on a Tuesday night, and remained broken the following morning. Widespread congestion ensued and Millburn Road and Academy Street were particularly affected, as were streets in the Crown housing area.
Engineers attended overnight and identified that a power cable fault was the cause of the issue.
Network Rail engineers managed to repair the crossing later that morning.
