The body of James Thomson Lawson Fernie was found in a tent at Torvean Quarry on September 18. Police have today confirmed his identity and said that the 64-year-old served with the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Mr Fernie is originally from the Stirling area and has family connections in Cornwall. A police spokesman said: “There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding this death.” A major police operation was launched after the discovery in the secluded corner of the quarry. Police believe that the remains may have lain for some time before being discovered.
