Police were last night hunting an Inverness man who was jailed for killing his brother – amid fears he may have returned to the city.
Gary Fraser was jailed for eight years in September 2011 for stabbing his brother, Andrew, in the leg at his home in the city.
He was originally charged with murder but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of culpable homicide.
The 36-year-old prisoner failed to return to Castle Huntly prison in Dundee following a temporary period of leave.
Police confirmed that Fraser was reported missing at 6pm on Sunday and has connections in the Inverness area.
He is described as being 5ft 11ins tall, of slim build and clean shaven with short dark hair.
Fraser appeared at Glasgow High Court in September 2011 on a murder charge, but instead admitted the reduced charge of culpable homicide.
At the time, the court heard that the brothers had a row at the victim’s home in Rosehaugh Road, Inverness, on March 21 of that year.
A struggle ensued and Fraser took hold of a knife before stabbing his brother in the leg. The blood-stained accused fled the property before an ambulance was called for Andrew.
Medics found him lying in a large pool of blood at his home and he was rushed to Raigmore Hospital.
Fraser, meanwhile, was traced to his house in Tannery Court, Inverness.
He initially denied being near his brother’s home although admitted hearing he had been attacked.
Andrew required a major blood transfusion in hospital after his femoral artery was severed.
He then developed brain damage and organ failure before doctors pronounced him dead.
If seen, members of the public should not approach him and should contact police on 101.
