A Coastguard helicopter joined two lifeboat teams and police in an extensive search yesterday afternoon for a missing Inverness teenager.
Amid increasing concerns for his safety, police carried out door-to-door inquiries in the hope that someone had news of Adam Mitchell’s whereabouts.
Police are also investigating a suggestion that someone matching Mr Mitchell’s description was seen with a woman with multi-coloured hair.
By early afternoon, a Coastguard helicopter crew joined a Coastguard lifeboat and RNLI crew in a wide sweep either side of the Kessock Bridge at Inverness scouring the waters and shores of the firth.
Police confirmed that the 18-year-old had been captured on CCTV footage, walking near the Harry Fairbairn BMW garage in the city’s Longman Road.
The film footage was timed shortly before 1am on Thursday.
Door-to-door inquiries continued during the day at a number of locations in the city.
A spokeswoman for the force said: “Mr Mitchell was last spoken to around 9pm on Wednesday (Nov 9) when it’s believed he was in a pub on Baron Taylor Street in the city centre.
“He failed to return home to the Culduthel area or make contact with family or friends since, which is out of character.”
Mr Mitchell is about 5ft 11in tall with a beard.
He was described by police as stocky, with long mousy brown hair.
When last seen he was wearing a black leather jacket, a denim vest, black jeans and boots.
Police have had a report of a man of similar appearance in the company of a woman in the Reasurie Gardens area.
She was described as being in her late teens with multi-coloured hair.
The force is “increasingly concerned” for Mr Mitchell’s welfare.
Police have urged anyone who can help trace him to call them on 101.
