The countdown to Christmas will officially begin in Inverness this weekend when Santa and his reindeer come to town to help switch on the lights.
Crowds are expected to gather in their thousands in the city centre on Sunday for the Santa-led parade, before the switch-on by city provost Helen Carmichael at 6pm.
Spectators will then be invited to attend the traditional children’s carol concert, Ding Dong Merrily Old High, which starts at 6.30pm.
Earlier on Sunday at noon, Santa will also be making his way onto Falcon Square with his reindeer and the cast of Eden Court’s Dick Whittington pantomime.
Family and visitors can also enjoy live music and an elf makeover station located at the entrance to the square, where youngsters can create their own elf hat and have their cheeks painted red.
Jackie Cuddy, Eastgate Centre manager, said: “Santa’s arrival with reindeer marks the start of the festive season at Eastgate Shopping Centre. It is a very exciting time and we have a fantastic day planned on Sunday which we hope the whole family can come down and enjoy.”
Santa Claus said: “I’m really looking forward to landing in Inverness – it’s always great to meet the children and hear what presents they want. The reindeer also love to get a break and meet people before their big night in December.”
“I’ve heard there are some great shops in Inverness. I’m hoping I’ll find something special to take home for Mrs Claus.”
The popular Winter Wonderland event will again take place from December 16-18, giving an opportunity for children to meet Santa and his reindeer at the illuminated Whin Park.
